Cell phones need electric sources to charge their batteries in order to work, A DC cell phone or mobile phone charger is a device which charges a cellphone from an available DC supply source. The device converts the unregulated DC source into a constant current and constant voltage output which becomes safe for any mobile phone charging. The goal of this project is to create a multiple output cell phone chargers for Local areas that found it difficult to charge their phones. The charger takes an input of 12 volts from a 12v power supply and reduces the voltage level to 5 volts output used to charge cell phones.

1.0 INTRODUCTION
1.1 BACKGROUND OF THE PROJECT
Cell phone Battery charger is an electronics device used in charging and recharging batteries when used up by the cell phone. This electronics device has the ability to stop charging when the battery is fully charged and starts charging when the battery voltage drops below the set point
The Cell phone Battery charger uses household current to put an electric charge into a discharged battery. The charger's circuits convert 240-volt household alternating current (AC) to the 9-volt direct current (DC), then regulate to 5v that the cell phone battery needs.
This charger will charge any cell phone battery that is rated 5v. It is fully automatic and will charge at a rate up to about 800mA until the battery voltage reaches a preset point at which it will switch to a very low current float charge. If the battery voltage drops again the charger will begin charging until the voltage once again reaches the maximum level and then stop charging. In this way it can be left connected to a battery indefinitely to maintain full charge without causing damage.
However, the focus of this project is specifically to design and construct a multiple USB cell phones charger powered by a single power source.
1.2 PROBLEM STATEMENT
Due to higher level of multiple phone usage by individual, for example, in Nigeria it is too difficult to an individual with just one mobile cellphone even among students and unemployed. And buying mobile cellphone chargers according to the number of cellphone someone has will consume much money and occupies spaces. It was because of this problem that a multible usb charger was invented. With this device multiple handsets can be charged simultaneously. This device provides safe, cheap and reliable energy to under-privileged families, villages and areas of developing and third world countries.
1.3 AIM AND OBJECTIVES
The aim of this project is to design and construct a working multiple cell phones charger to charge a number of cell phones simultaneously.
The objectives are as follows:
- To use one charger to charge many handsets
- To arrange and solder the component according to the design circuit.
- To reduce the cost of purchasing multiple chargers
- To test and evaluate the performance of the developed device.
1.4 SCOPE OF THE PROJECT
The scope of this work is to build a charger that is capable of charging many phones simultaneously. This charger will charge any cell phone battery that is rated 5v. The main purpose of the work is to produce a constant cell phone charging booth that runs solely on a single power supply source.
1.6 APPLICATIONS OF THE PROJECT
This device provides constant cell phone charging in our:
- Homes
- Workshops
- Worship centre (such as churches or mosque)
- Offices
- And any other places that electrical energy is been used
1.7 METHODOLOGY
To achieve the aim and objectives of this work, the following are the steps involved:
- Study of the previous work on the project so as to improve it efficiency.
- Draw a block diagram.
- Test for continuity of components and devices,
- Design and calculation for the system was carried out.
- Studying of various component used in circuit.
- Construct a system circuit.
- Finally, the whole device was cased and final test was carried out.
1.8 THESIS OUTLINE
This thesis consists of five chapters. Chapter One will discuss about the overview of the project, objective of the project, project scope and problem statement.
Chapter Two contains a detail description of the original setup. It explains about the concept used and the components that involved in the project.
Chapter Three includes the original designed circuit and its components. Also a complete analysis to the presented design will be given.
Chapter Four shows the experimental work and the practical testing results to the constructed circuit will be explained.
The last Chapter contains the detail description about conclusion and recommendation. It concludes the whole project and gives a future recommendation to make this project perfect. Also it explains the important merit of the project.
