DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION OF A NOTICE BOARD USING LED

 

ABSTRACT

This project work is on an electronic notice board using LED which is an electronic display used in advertising and distribution of information in public and private locations. The displays are seen mainly in many public places such as airports, train stations, and shopping malls. In this work, signs uses technology such as LED to display information and can be found in public spaces, transportation systems, museums, stadiums, retail stores, hotels, restaurants, and corporate buildings.

 

 

 

CHAPTER ONE
1.1                                          INTRODUCTION
The main function of Signboard is for communication, to convey information such that its receiver can make cognitive decisions based on the information provided. In general, signage can be classified into the following functions:
(a)Information (b)Direction(c)Identification Light-emitting diode (LED) technology is frequently used in signs. This technology, first used primarily at sporting events, later appeared at businesses, churches, schools, and government buildings.
Signs frequently use lighting as a means of conveying their information or as a way to increase visibility.
These LED writing boards feature various flashing effects that are sure to attract the attention of passersby. The flashing pattern as well as the displayed colors can be cycled with these restaurant signs. These illuminated displays could be hung on any glass surface with the use of some simple suction cups.
This type of message board uses a small number of low-power LED's for illumination. Fluorescent Ink Menu Boards typically have a black background that allows the fluorescent ink to stand out with little illumination. These factors together result in a small power requirement even compared to LED Marquee style message boards.

1.2                                                   AIM OF THE PROJECT
Presently almost all electronic notice boards are designed using wired system. One of the drawbacks of the design is the system is inflexible in term of placement. The common notice board cannot be placed anywhere because of the messy wire. The aim of this project is to develop a wireless notice board that will be used attached faculty in order to display latest information. 
            
1.3                                              PURPOSE OF THE PROJECT
The main purpose of signboard is communication, to convey information such that its receiver can make cognitive decisions based on the information provided. In general, signage can be classified into the following functions:
(a)Information: signs giving information about services and facilities, e.g., maps, directories, instructions for use, etc. (b)Direction: signs leading to services, facilities, functional spaces and key areas, e.g., sign posts, directional arrows, etc. (c)Identification: signs indicating services and facilities, e.g., room names & numbers, toilet signs, number of floors, etc. (d)Safety and Regulatory: signs giving warning or safety instructions, e.g., warning signs, traffic signs, exit signs, rules & regulations.


1.4                          SIGNIFICANCE OF THE PROJECT
The LED sign board is very slim and lightweight in design. LED light source, lower power consumption. Ultra slim & ultra light. Top designs for show window and guide board. This LED sign board is ideal for advertising or displaying purpose. The sign board allows you to display your advertising messages, product images at prominent places.
The main advantage of using this display is the information displaying on the display can easily be change by changing the program in microcontroller. And also animation is possible during displaying the massage. This is undoubtedly acceptable in the high society. There is another advantage of this device i.e. less cost-effective. The LED used in this device is RED LED having wavelength 660nm. Hence the displaying massage can be seen from very high distance.
The materials has been used in this device is very easily available in the market. So the raw material availability creates no problem during device manufacture. 

1.5                               APPLICATIONS OF THE PROJECT

Because electronic signboard is very small and inexpensive devices that enhance the popularity of product designs, they are often incorporated into all kinds of devices such as in:
• churches
• industries
• schools
• organization

 

1.6                          PROJECT WORK ORGANISATION
The various stages involved in the development of this project have been properly put into five chapters to enhance comprehensive and concise reading. In this project thesis, the project is organized sequentially as follows:
Chapter one of this work is on the introduction to the study. In this chapter, the background, significance, objective limitation and problem of the study were discussed.
Chapter two is on literature review of this study. In this chapter, all the literature pertaining to this work was reviewed.
Chapter three is on design methodology. In this chapter all the method involved during the design and construction were discussed.
Chapter four is on testing analysis. All testing that result accurate functionality was analyzed.
Chapter five is on conclusion, recommendation and references.
