CHAPTER ONE
1.0 INTRODUCTION
The word chandelier was first known in the English language in the 1736, borrowed from the Old French word chandelier, which comes from the Latin candelabrum.
Chandelier is a decorative ceiling-mounted light fixture. Chandeliers are often ornate, and normally use lamps. Crystal chandeliers have more or less complex arrays of crystal prisms to illuminate a room with refracted light. Chandeliers are often located in hallways, living rooms, and recently in bathrooms.
Chandelier is a lighting fixture – a round or elongated, cone-shaped or straight item, which is made with glass or cut-glass.
They are bulky and vast, with numerous rows and threads flowing top-down. This is why cascade chandeliers are often chosen for large spaces with high ceilings. For example, for houses with ample hallways, living rooms, restaurants, hotels and affluent offices.
1.2 OBJECTIVE OF THE PROJECT
The objective of this work is to construct a decorative ceiling-mounted light fixture with arrays of crystal prisms to illuminate a room with refracted light.
1.3 SIGNIFICANCE OF THE PROJECT
The main function of a cascade chandelier is accommodational lighting, making volumetric reflections of light. It has large amount of bulbs, and numerous shining elements, the capacity of luminous flux is dispersed and emits a bright halo of light. The controllable conditions of an chandelier with LED bulbs, and play of colors, creates a unique atmosphere in any space. The other significance of chandeliers are:
- They are the ideal size for large accommodation. Power of lighting, size and majestic style make them indispensable in the decoration or expansive spaces and high ceilings.
- Eccentric performance and attractive design. Cascading lamps are a popular choice for home lighting, creating an intricate light display in the home.
- Natural materials are used in their construction.
- Lighting capacity.
1.4 LIMITATION OF THE PROJECT
The only disadvantage is, perhaps, the cleaning and care process takes lot of time and professionalism. The design of cascade chandeliers is difficult and multilayered, due to its composition and construction. Therefore, models of natural and safe material don’t come cheap.
1.5 TYPES OF CHANDELIER
Chandeliers can be categorized according to a multitude of variables.
By style:
- Classical
- Hi-tech
Ceiling fastening:
- Overhead
- Hanging
By material:
- Cut glass
- Glass
- Precious stones
- Semiprecious stones
Shape of hangers:
- Spherical
- Pyramid
- Cranes
