DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION OF AN OPEN AND CLOSE DOOR SENSOR
The project is designed for automatic door opening and closing system using PIR sensor. Opening and closing of doors is always a tedious job, especially in places like shopping malls, hotels and theatres where a person is always required to open the door for visitors.
This project proposes a system of automatic opening and closing of door by sensing any body movement near the door. This is achieved with help of a PIR (Passive Infrared) sensor. A live body generally emits infrared energy which is sensed by the PIR sensor from a considerable distance. This sensing signal is fed to a microcontroller to operate a door motor through motor driver IC.
When a body approaches within the operating range of the sensor, it sends a logical command to open the door. The door automatically closes with a fixed time delay. If there is no further movement within the PIR operating range. Interrupt signals are used through limit switches to avoid locked rotor condition of the motor.
CHAPTER ONE
1.1 INTRODUCTION
An automatic opening and closing of door sensor is a motion detector: The most common single-technology motion detecting sensor uses passive infrared (PIR) energy to recognize the movement of heat in a protected space, such as a person walking near the door. It is most effective in detecting when the heat mass moves across its field of vision.

1.2 OBJECTIVE OF THE PROJECT

1.3 SIGNIFICANCE OF THE PROJECT

c. The System has Loop Detector which holds the gate from closing any further as soon as tire is detected on the boom so your vehicle never gets hit by gate’s movement.
d. Contains Infrared Photocell that detects human movements within the gate boom and prevents the gate from closing any further so as not to hurt anyone within the boom.
1.4 APPLICATION OF THE PROJECT
Automatic entrance/exit door control is widely used in public places such as grocery stores, Residential house, Church, Company, Car garage businesses, transportation stations, airports, and wholesale department stores to eliminate the need of manually opening and closing actions.
1.5 LIMITATION OF THE PROJECT
- The problem of this device is notice when there is power failure in the system or when battery gets low thee system stops working.
- Another problem of this device is the difficulty people face while entering your house. The people who frequently visit your place are often irritated when they have to call you every time to enter the control the system and let them in.
1.6 PROJECT WORK ORGANISATION
The various stages involved in the development of this project have been properly put into five chapters to enhance comprehensive and concise reading. In this project thesis, the project is organized sequentially as follows:
Chapter one of this work is on the introduction to of this work. In this chapter, the background, significance, objective limitation and problem of of this work were discussed.
Chapter two is on literature review of this work. In this chapter, all the literature pertaining to this work was reviewed.
Chapter three is on design methodology. In this chapter all the method involved during the design and construction were discussed.
Chapter four is on testing analysis. All testing that result accurate functionality was analyzed.
Chapter five is on conclusion, recommendation and references.
