ABSTRACT

This project is on a home automation system using ESP32. This work is aimed at building a circuit for Home Automation using ESP32. ESP32 is a low-power and low-cost microcontroller board which has a built-in WiFi and a dual-mode Bluetooth module.
Method: The device was first built on a breadboard which is later transfer to vero board and soldered.
Result: The device was completely build and coupled, the result during the test shows that the device was able to respond to its operation - it was able to control home appliances wirelessly.
Conclusion and Recommendation: At the end of this project – home automation using ESP32, this device was built and tested. This type of device is important because there are times when the home owners will not be around and the need to control appliances will arise. I recommend that device should be modify to control more four appliances.

1.0                                                        INTRODUCTION
1.1                                           BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY
As technology developing faster, researchers are taking it as an advantage to implement new intelligent systems or enhancing the existing systems. Home automation system or smart home systems are getting more popularity in recent days. These home automation systems are enhancing by changing existing features like communication medium or features day to day.
Home automation systems enable users to control and monitor every home appliance from remote places. Many wireless technologies have introduced and enhanced in implementation of home automation systems in recent days. The available wireless technologies infrared, Bluetooth, ZigBee, Wi-Fi, RFID and GSM are used to develop a commercially viable smart home systems.
This system is a combination of ESP32, relays and power supply unit. So this system is cost effective, secure and reliable.

1.2                                                  PROBLEM STATEMENT
Most homes make use of many electrical and electronics appliances such as the television set, standing fan, ceiling fan, air conditioner, lighting bulbs, video players, radio, etc. All these appliances require switching to turn on and turn off these appliances traditionally. This manual switching of any home appliance is an inconvenient method for physically disabled or elderly or even for the young and busy individuals when frequent switching operation is required. Thus, an easier method of switching is developed to replace this manual switching method, using an advanced switching method for electronic home appliances – ESP32. This involves using ESP32 module to switch ON and OFF of home appliances.

1.3                                  AIM AND OBJECTIVES OF THE PROJECT
The main aim of this project is to build a home automation system using ESP 32. The objectives of the work are:

  • To build the system prototype
  • To enable users to remotely control their home appliances and systems using a ESP32 module -based interface.
  • To apply internet of things (IoT) in our homes

1.4                                                 SCOPE OF THE PROJECT
This device allows for a user to remotely control and monitor multiple home appliances using a ESP 32 Wifi module. This system will be a powerful and flexible tool that will offer this service at any time, and from anywhere with the constraints of the technologies being applied. Possible target appliances include (but are not limited to) climate control systems, security systems, and lights; anything with an electrical interface.

1.5                                          LIMITATIONS OF THE PROJECT

The following is a list of limitations for the project.

Only devices with electrical controlling input ports will be possible targets for control.

The receiver must have a power source (220vac) attached at all times.

There must be a connection between the system ESP32 module and phone wifi.
