THE DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION OF REMOTE ACTIVATED ELECTRONIC DOOR BELL

ABSTRACT

Remote activated electronic bell is a signaling device typically placed near an entry door to a building. When a visitor presses the remote the bell rings inside the building, alerting the occupant to the presence of the visitor.
A remote activated electronic doorbell is a handy little electronic device that makes it possible to operate doorbell wirelessly. The visitor or operator remotely sends an infrared or IR signal to a receiver that triggers the bell.

CHAPTER ONE
1.1                                          INTRODUCTION
In consumer electronics, a remote control doorbell is a component of an electronic device used to operate the doorbell wirelessly from a short distance. Remote control is a convenience feature for the consumer, and can allow operation of devices that are out of convenient reach for direct operation of controls.
Commonly, remote controls are Consumer  IR devices which sends digitally-coded pulses of infrared radiation to control the door bell Remote controls for this device is usually small wireless handheld objects with an array of buttons activating the door bell. For many devices, the remote control contains all the function controls while the controlled device itself has only a handful of essential primary controls.
An electronic bell can be defined as dunce which can be use to alert signal for indicating of problem in alarm signals.
A remote activated electronic doorbell is a handy little electronic device that makes it possible to operate doorbell wirelessly. The visitor or operator remotely sends an infrared or IR signal to a receiver that triggers the bell. Before this device works correctly it must be within the specified range of its IR signal-sending strength. If it is within range but still does not work, there are ways to fix it.
Furthermore, the objective of this electronic bell is to provide a cheap, wireless and continent means of communication between two or more people in the same premises.

The major different between inter- communication system using telephone and electric bell is that the signal is transmitted by the call indicator system in place of speech as in the case of the telephony.
In most wireless systems, a button on the outside next to the door, located around the height of the remote, activates a signaling device (usually a chime, bell, or buzzer) inside the building.

1.2                              OBJECTIVE OF THE PROJECT
The objective of this electronic doorbell is to design a device that will provide a cheap, wireless and continent means of communication between two or more people in the same premises. In electronic doorbell, sound is generated when a remote button is pressed.

1.3                              SIGNIFICANCE OF THE PROJECT
Remote activated Electronic bell Provide a cheap and continent means of communication between two or more people in the same premises. It can also be used in offices or industries as a mean alerting of someone.

1.4                                        PURPOSE OF THE PROJECT
The purpose of this project is to build a system that can independently and wirelessly control the electronic doorbell. To do this, the system will need 4 core components: an input system for the transmitter, a wireless transmitter, a wireless receiver, and a bell controller connected to the receiver.

1.5                                  SCOPE OF THE PROJECT
The circuit was designed, and developed using pulse width modulation (PWM). To make it, IR transmitter and IR sensor was used. There are two sections in the circuit: (1) PWM generator with IR modulator and (2) IR receiver and motor driver.  The transmitter generates PWM wave of 50hz (20ms) and modulates it over 38KHz frequency. The IR sensor on receiver side will demodulate the PWM wave and drives the bell.

1.6                                           LIMITATION OF THE PROJECT
This project operates with power supply, which means that the system will stop working whenever mains power supply fails unless when rechargeable battery is used. When opaque object is in-between the transmitter and the receiver, it can stop the alarm from working.

1.7                          PROJECT WORK ORGANISATION
The various stages involved in the development of this project have been properly put into five chapters to enhance comprehensive and concise reading. In this project thesis, the project is organized sequentially as follows:
Chapter one of this work is on the introduction to remote control electronic door bell. In this chapter, the background, significance, objective limitation and problem of remote control electronic door bell were discussed.
Chapter two is on literature review of remote control electronic door bell. In this chapter, all the literature pertaining to this work was reviewed.
Chapter three is on design methodology. In this chapter all the method involved during the design and construction were discussed.
Chapter four is on testing analysis. All testing that result accurate functionality was analyzed.
Chapter five is on conclusion, recommendation and references.
