1.0                                                        INTRODUCTION
1.1                                                Background of the study
An electric battery is a device consisting of one or more electrochemical cells that convert stored chemical energy into electrical energy. Each battery consists of a negative electrode (anode) that holds charged ions, a positive electrode (cathode) that holds discharged ions, an electrolyte that allows ions to move from anode to cathode during discharge (and return during recharge) and terminals that allow current to flow out of the battery to perform work.
Solar batteries are the most common form of solar energy storage – which is important because the sun isn’t always shining. One may consider a solar battery if you’re looking for resiliency, energy security, or cost savings.
A solar battery allows you to continue powering your home with renewable solar energy during the evening and at night when the solar panels aren’t able to generate energy. Solar PV panels convert solar energy into usable electricity and, more often than not, they’re producing more electricity than can be used. Without a solar battery, this excess is delivered to the National Grid.
Solar batteries come in different shapes and sizes, but they all work by converting solar power into usable electricity during the day so that solar energy is stored for use after the sun has set. Solar batteries are designed to store solar power so that homes can run on solar energy, even when the sun isn’t shining.
As more and more people install solar on their homes and the price of electricity from the grid continues to spike, energy storage systems, also known as solar batteries, are becoming increasingly popular among homeowners. Solar batteries are a complementary technology to solar panels that help establish energy security and reduce grid dependency, while saving money in avoided electricity costs.
In some countries such as the U.S. there are rules, regulations and recommendations to ensure battery installations are completed in a safe and effective manner. This work discusses how to install your battery to maximize its capacity and your safety.

1.2      Problem Statement
There are several factors such as weather, climate, and battery weight that determine how and where your battery can be installed. Improper installation or handling of solar battery can lead to several danger and poor performance or operation of solar devices. In order to prevent such situations is important the proper means of installing your battery to maximize its capacity and your safety.

1.3      Aim and objectives of the study
The main aim of this project is to describe the procedures on how to install solar batteries. The objectives of the study are:

1.4      Significance of the study
This study shall serve as an avenue for learning rules, regulations and recommendations to ensure battery installations are completed in a safe and effective manner.

The scope of this work covers studying rules, regulations and recommendations to ensure a good and secured solar battery installation. The study will also discuss how solar battery connections can be made.

    This thesis was carried out to study the installation of a solar battery. In addition, it aimed to provide clear understanding on how solar battery is installed in other to achieve a good solar system. Finally, to achieve a longer time of power supply, battery banks are recommended.

    5.2 RECOMMENDATION

    1. The inverter should be design to use more batteries at a time connected in parallel.
    2. The charging unit should be designed to be able to deliver a high charging current, so that batteries could be charged on time.
    3. The device should be incorporated with alarm, to call the attention of the user when battery discharged.
    4. The device should be design to automatically switch OFF when battery charges are below the useable capacity.
