POWER TRANSFORMER SPECIFICATION AND ITS APPLICATION

 

ABSTRACT

Power transformer transfers electrical energy in any part of the electrical or electronic circuit between the generator and the distribution primary circuits. These transformers are used in distribution systems to interface step up and step down voltages. These transformers transform the voltage. It holds a low voltage, high current circuit at one side of the transformer and on the other side of the transformer it holds high voltage low current circuit. Power transformer depends on the principle of Faradays induction. Power transformers can be designed as either a single phase or a three phase configuration. There are numerous important specifications to identify when searching for power transformers. These specifications are described in this work.

CHAPTER ONE
1.0                                          INTRODUCTION
A transformer is an electrical device which is used to transfer power from one circuit to another through electromagnetic induction. The power transfer is accompanied without frequency change. In an electronic system, the term power transformer is used to provide a number of AC supplies of several voltages and appropriate values of current from the public electricity supply. And also used to denote to transformers with a 500KVA rating or greater.
The Power transformer is a one kind of transformer, that is used to transfer electrical energy in any part of the electrical or electronic circuit between the generator and the distribution primary circuits. These transformers are used in distribution systems to interface step up and step down voltages. The common type of power transformer is liquid immersed and the life span of these transformers is around 30 years. Power transformers can be classified into three types based on the ranges.

1.1                                       AIM OF THE STUDY
The main aim of this study is to highlight the important specification and application of a power transformer.

1.2                              OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY
At the end of this work student will be able to understand the importance and major specification of a power a power transformer and as well as the application of a power transformer.

1.3                             SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY
This work will serve as guiding tools to a designer and at the same time to a purchaser of a power transformer, thereby providing them with all the necessary consideration needed when buying or designing a power transformer.

1.4                                    SCOPE OF THE STUDY
This specification covers the design, engineering, manufacture, testing, supply, delivery, offloading and performance requirements of 33/11kV power transformers for use in the primary substations. The transformers shall be double copper wound, three phase, oil immersed with ONAN cooling and fitted with on load tap changers for 8.00 MVA Transformer only. The ratings required are 3.15 MVA, 5.0 MVA and 8.0 MVA.
The transformer shall conform in all respects to highest standards of engineering, design, workmanship, this specification and the latest revisions of relevant standards at the time of offer and the Purchaser shall have the power to reject any work or material, which, in his judgement, is not in full accordance therewith.
