There might be many reasons for accidents cause, but two of the major reasons are, not wearing helmet while riding of the bike as well as drink and drive scenarios. Accidents are caused almost everywhere which is the reason for rise in the number of accidents. To overcome these problems there’s a solution is wearing a helmet that “Smart Helmet”. By using this effective helmet we can minimize the accidents. The system allows for automatic sensing of alcohol in breath, we also use a motor to demonstrate as a vehicle. We further use a GPS module with GSM to send an SMS message to the concerned person in case alcohol is detected and stop the vehicle motor.
The system consists of an Arduino Uno board along with an Mq-3 alcohol sensor for detection and a GSM/GPS Module for notification

1.0 INTRODUCTION
1.1 BACKGROUND OF TH STUDY
There are some laws in which the rider should wear the helmet while driving the vehicle under 129 the section of motor vehicle act. This law states that it is compulsory for motor cyclist to wear the helmet. Yet some people still doesn’t wear the helmet and that causes more accidents that leads to immediate death. Another major reasons for accidents are old vehicles, below 18 peoples, crossing signals, one way, overspeed. So to overcome this problem an IOT based smart helmet are used, in this smart helmet some important features are used such as MQ3 gas sensor, impact sensor etc, by using this features we can lower accidents and it is very effective and useful. The main advantages of this helmet is that driver should compulsory wear the helmet while riding the bike or else biker will not able to start the bike without wearing the helmet. There are sensors installed in helmet and bike, this is the main advantages in this project.
The basic idea behind the smart helmet system is to use various sensors and monitoring devices to detect the presence of alcohol in a driver's breath or blood. The system would then send an alert to the driver, warning them not to operate a vehicle until they are sober. If the driver ignores the warning and attempts to drive while intoxicated, the smart helmet system can also alert law enforcement officers. One of the primary advantages of the smart helmet system is that it is non-invasive. Unlike other alcohol detection methods, such as blood or urine tests, the smart helmet system does not require any bodily fluids to be collected from the driver. Instead, the system uses sensors that can detect alcohol in a driver's breath or blood through non-invasive means
One potential application of the smart helmet system is in the commercial transportation industry. In many countries, commercial drivers are required to undergo regular alcohol testing. However, these tests can be time-consuming and invasive.
Our proposed system would be constantly monitoring the driver breath by placing it on the driver wheel or somewhere the driver’s breath can be constantly monitored by it. So if a driver is drunk and tries to drive the system detects alcohol presence in his/her breathe and locks the engine so that the vehicle fails to start.
In another case if the driver is not drunk while he starts the vehicle and engine is started but he/she drinks while driving the sensor still detects alcohol in his breath and stops the engine so that the vehicle would not accelerate any further. In this system we use a microcontroller interfaced with an alcohol sensor along with an LCD screen and a dc motor to demonstrate the concept. So here the alcohol sensor is used to monitor uses breath and constantly sends signals to the microcontroller.
1.2 STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
Drunk driving is a significant problem in modern society, causing countless injuries and fatalities every year. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), drunk driving accounted for 28% of all traffic fatalities in the United States in 2019. In response to this problem, many efforts have been made to develop innovative technologies that can help prevent drunk driving, such as the smart helmet system. A smart helmet is a type of wearable technology that is equipped with various sensors and monitoring devices.
One of the primary challenges in developing a smart helmet system for alcohol detection is ensuring that the system is accurate and reliable. False positives or false negatives could lead to serious consequences, both for the driver and for law enforcement officers. To address this challenge, researchers have been working to improve the accuracy and reliability of the sensors and monitoring devices used in smart helmets. They have also been developing algorithms and machine learning models that can interpret the data collected by the sensors and provide accurate alcohol detection results.
One potential application of the smart helmet system is in the commercial transportation industry. In many countries, commercial drivers are required to undergo regular alcohol testing. However, these tests can be time-consuming and invasive. 1.3 AIM AND OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY
The aim of this study is to develop smart helmet incorporated with alcohol detection system and motorcycle immobilizer. The objectives of the study are:
- To build the system prototype
- To ensure that drivers are not operating a vehicle while intoxicated thereby reducing the risk of accidents and increasing passenger safety
- To test alcohol consumption in a non-invasive manner.
1.4 SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY
The smart helmet system is in the personal transportation industry. Ride-sharing companies such as Uber and Lyft have become increasingly popular in recent years, and many drivers rely on these services as a source of income. By using a smart helmet system, ride-sharing companies could ensure that their drivers are not operating a vehicle while intoxicated, reducing the risk of accidents and increasing passenger safety. In addition to transportation safety, the smart helmet system could also be used in other settings where alcohol consumption is a concern. For example, some workplaces require employees to undergo regular alcohol testing, particularly in safety-sensitive positions. By using a smart helmet system, employers could test their employees for alcohol consumption in a non-invasive manner, improving overall.
1.5 SCOPE OF THE STUDY
The scope of the study covers building a smart helmet for alcohol detection and motorcycle immobilizing system. This smart helmet system does not require any bodily fluids to be collected from the driver. Instead, the system uses sensors that can detect alcohol in a driver's breath or blood through non-invasive means. Sensors are used in a smart helmet system to detect alcohol. These sensors detect alcohol by measuring the absorption of infrared light by the alcohol molecules in a driver's breath or blood. The system consists of an Arduino Uno board along with an Mq-3 alcohol sensor for detection and a GSM/GPS Module for notification
CHAPTER FIVE
5.1 CONCLUSION
Drunk driving is one of the major reasons behind road accidents worldwide. In all of the road accident cases worldwide drivers have been observed to have excess alcohol content in their blood. So we here successfully develop a smart helmet alcohol detector system with immobilizing system using arduino coupled with gsm and gps for location transmission.
5.2 RECOMMENDATION
The result should be accurate and should be useful to the government and society. This smart helmet can also be changed to seat belt system in case of four wheelers and can be implemented in future.
