INTRODUCTION
1.1 Background to the Study
Education is an enlightened experienced, it is a state attained after through systematic instructions from an higher developed intellectuals. This enlightenment is the knowledge gained from higher brained to a lower brained who put it into practice (Fafunwa,2000). This enlightenment has been defined as life span of a man from cradle to grave. The enlightenment is the knowledge pass onto the lower brained from the higher brained. It(enlightenment) is dated back to the existence of first man, prophet Adam (A.S). Enlightenment was passed onto him by Almighty Allah in naming things as the yardstick to promote him over the angels.(Quran, chp 2 vs 31).
The passing of knowledge is termed "Teaching" as the receiver is undergoing "Learning". These brought about existence of Teacher who passes knowledge to the student who received the knowledge. The knowledge is in two aspects I.e Oral and Literacy. Oral is the knowledge passed verbally. It is the oldest means of knowledge. It require no documentation but assimilation in form of memorization.( Fischer,2004).
Literacy enlightenment is the development of WRITING techniques dated back to 3500B.C in Egypt by the Egyptians. Hiereroglyphs were in use as far back as 3400B.C. Followed by the development of the oldest alphabet in central Egypt around 2000B.C from hieroglyphic prototype.
After the Egyptian alphabets was the formation of the Greek alphabets, later the Russian, Hebrew and Arabic alphabets. The Chinese alphabets came up in 1200B.C in the Shang dynasty. Education was perfected in Oral and Writing which paced fast growth of Education.( Fischer, 2004).
There has been a designated portion for achievement of enlightenment which is term school (Nworgu,2011).
School is a building placed in a controlled and structured environment, it is formal set up where behavior of man is modified intellectually, morally, socially, spiritually with a view in making man helpful to mankind and the entire society. A school assists in the making a complete individual who is well grounded in three domains cognitive, affective and psychomotor.(Muhammad, 2014).
School as a medium of passage of education existed with existed of education. It is the unity of teacher, student and knowledge learnt in a place found. This led to formation of schools into formal and informal schools. The informal schools includes learning under trees, village squares, palm-tents, on mats etc. The teacher in informal schools is usually an elder person and the students usually younger ones. The syllabus of informal schools is designed individually by the teacher concerned which the students learnt without literal documentation but by memorization and practicalization, (Al-Jazairy,2007). The lapses in informal schools is covered up by formal schools.
The formal schools is of structured building divided into different classes with syncritized, standardized syllabus use nationwide for learning. This leads to establishment of schools based on age group but tends to address the standard of brain into classes as age will be irrelevant after test and examinations. Schools' grading depends strictly on policy of education in a country concerned. In Nigeria, it has been graded into primary education, secondary education and post secondary education. The policy of Education in Nigeria has it for 4years old as beginner in primary education, eleven years old beginner in secondary education and fifteen years old and above in post secondary education as beginner.(National policy on education, NPE 2013).
Exceptional cases is when a child is genius, he would be less than stated age in any of the educational set-up. A child with low level of assimilation would be above stated age for each section of educational policy. Uneducated parents, poverty in family etc can also be decide factor in late commencement of education with pupil beyond stated age. (Adigun, 2013).
On primary education, sub education schools such as crench, kindergarten, nursery schools had been created to monitor the growth of child till four years old. The sub education schools are stages before primary education. Pupils are expected to use six years on primary education, three years in Lower Basic (primary 1 - 3) and three years in Middle basic (primary 4 -6), various subjects is introduced in primary education in Nigeria. The subject include Mathematics, English Language, one Nigerian language, one religion subject in c.r.s or I.r.s. about fifteen subjects is approved to shape the child into useful product for the society. (National policy on Education, NPE, 2013).
